The Adoption Process
Thinking about welcoming a dog into your family? Here’s what you need to consider:
Ensure that everyone in the household is fully on board with having and committing to taking care of a dog.
Understand that owning a dog is a long-term commitment, spanning 10 to 17 years of their life.
Determine what type of dog would fit best in your home: active or calm, affectionate or independent, etc.
Remember, dogs are not toys or tools for children or to manage land or buildings.
We know our dogs’ personalities inside out and can help match you with the perfect fit for your home.
Adoption & Fostering Requirements
Our dogs are sterilized, vaccinated, treated for fleas, and dewormed. Please note that if the dog doesn’t acclimate to your home during a trial period, they can be returned.
- Respond to a brief interview to better understand your home environment, helping us suggest suitable dogs.
- Meet the dog in person at our location in Santa Cruz La Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala. A doggie sleep-over can be arranged on-site at our beautiful lake-front Casa Serenidad AirBnB.
- Allow us to visit your home to ensure it’s suitable for the dog and that everyone agrees to the adoption or fostering arrangement or allow us to see it via video if too far to visit.
- Sign the adoption or fostering contract and provide a copy of your identification (Passport or DPI).
- Offer a contribution of Q350 to help cover the cost of neutering (Q450 for large breeds).
